A Mirfield couple have launched their own businesses side-by-side on the town’s high street.
Omar Khan and his wife Kay have taken over the former Cafe Boo premises opposite Mirfield Library and transformed the building into a newsagent and podiatry practice.
Omar runs Mirfield News and Kay, a specialist diabetes podiatrist, offers her services under Pro Podiatry, after previously leading a team of 15 staff for the NHS in Manchester.
And the joint success has inspired them to expand into the upstairs of the building, which now houses a coffee shop.
The pair opened their venture with an official launch back in August, serving free Indian food to delighted customers to celebrate the occasion.
Sharing the premises means the couple can reduce their overheads and the project had been in the pipeline after Kay secured contracts with local nursing homes.
Their children Kamran, nine, and Sara, six, will also be a familiar sight when helping their father in the shop.
“We live within walking distance of the shop and the children go to school nearby so it works well for us,” said Omar.
“We have taken this initiative and we want to make it a success. Our customers have been incredibly loyal since we started and we want to look after them and do what ever we can for them,” he added.
