Cash boost for Bloom group's self-watering planters in town

After a month of voting by locals as part of Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire’s Community Chest initiative, it was Mirfield in Bloom that came out on top and the money, which has been gratefully received by the group, has already been allocated to self-watering planters at the junction of Sunnybank Road and Huddersfield Road.

Christine Sykes, secretary and fundraiser at Mirfield in Bloom, said: “We are thrilled to be announced as one of the winners of Taylor Wimpey’s Community Chest. Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate us.

“We believe that residents of the area deserve something cheerful to look at following such a hard year in lockdown.

"The Sunnybank Neighbourhood Group worked tirelessly to beautify this junction and it is here that we plan to construct the self-watering planters to reward the group’s hard work.

“Mirfield in Bloom is about more than just flowers; we aim to pull all areas of the community together to make grey spaces green, turn neighbours into friends and encourage communities to work together to create a town that residents are proud to live in.”

Ross Clarkson, sales director at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, said: “It was Mirfield in Bloom’s obvious passion for all things green that truly inspired voters.

"The organisation understands how important community spirit is and it’s this attitude that has won them the donation.

"We hope our contribution will go towards making the area an even better place to live.”
