An evening of high art done Batley's way
The evening of music, song and dance has been inspired by Donizetti’s light-hearted opera The Elixir of Love, which will be performed in a shortened form in English by professional singers from Opera North as part of the programme.
A cast of more than 100 local performers and professionals will take to the stage at Batley’s Central Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 22.

I had that stereotypical view of opera – heavier people crooning along like the Go Compare advert and had no interest. Then we went along to see L’elisir d’amore the other week and it was fantastic. I’m a real convert already. I’d go back and see another one.”
Creative Scene, which organised the event with Opera North, creative producer Rebecca Legg, said: “What these participants have accomplished in such a short amount of time is truly remarkable. From singers to dancers to school children, all have been so enthusiastic to try something new. I hope the local community comes out to enjoy what is sure to be a fantastic evening.”
