Former Paralympian Paul Cartwright’s latest challenge
Paul, of Liversedge, powered his way through the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride on his specially adapted wheelchair, thanks to Birstall company Ring Automotive.
The company, in Gelderd Road, provided Paul with a specialist hand-cycle adaptation for his wheelchair, which allowed him to clock up the miles just as if he was cycling, but using his arms instead.

Hide AdJoining him on the ride on Saturday were 25 cyclists including the Mayor of Kirklees Coun Martyn Bolt, all aiming to raise money for the Hollybank Trust in Mirfield. The team was also sponsored by Ring.
Paul, who used to attend Hollybank School and is now its ambassador, rose to stardom in the 1980s as a wheelchair sprinter, then later in a variety of disciplines such as 400m, power-lifting and fishing, and has amassed more than 80 national and international medals
