Friends conquer Ben Nevis!

Led by Adrian Horsley, from Cleckheaton, the group conquered 1,344 metre-high Ben Nevis in Scotland’s Grampian Mountains through torrential conditions to raise money for the mental health charity, Mind.

Mr Horsley, 36, was joined by his friends Adam Firth, 28, from Scholes and Ian Croft from Cleckheaton, as well as Simon Wright, 37, from Castleford and Matthew Gant, 36, from Middleton.

Mr Horsley said: “Unfortunately mental health issues have affected a lot of our lives and we wanted to help Mind carry on with the important work they do to raise awareness and help sufferers and their families.

“We set off at 6am from our hostel in Fort William and were greeted with torrential rain and thunder. Only the thought of our fundraising provided us with the incentive to carry on the trek.

“Despite the obstacles that nature threw at us, it also offered some of the most inspiring sights I’ve ever seen in my life - from a rainbow seemingly growing from a nearby village in the valley to the rolling clouds on the hills below. It truly was one of the best experiences of my life, made all the more rewarding knowing that we have made a difference.”

The group raised £300 in sponsorship and were also supported with a £1,000 donation from the Yorkshire Building Society’s Charitable Foundation for their trek.
