Fundraising teenagers visit centre for disabled

Teenage girls from a Dewsbury community group have met people with disabilities at the Howland Centre. The Kumon Y'All members have fundraised to repair the centre's boiler and the 13-16 year-olds were keen to find out more about its work over tea and cakes.

“The visit was such a wonderful experience. Walking in there, seeing all the members smiling did nothing other than bring smiles to our faces too. Everyone was really friendly and we had lots of laughs together,” said Zainab Rekhard, 14. The girls now plan to support further Howland Centre projects in the future.

“The event was a great success. The young ladies were excellent. Considering that they are between 13 and 16, and they raised £1,438.00 for Howlands, they have shown remarkable talents,” said centre chairman Tom Ellis.
