Generosity of people in our town shown

More than 10,000 meals were donated to people in need over three days by shoppers in Batley.

Tesco’s Neighbourhood Food Collection encouraged people to donate food at its Bradford Road store last month.

And shoppers demonstrated their generosity by giving 10,089 meals to foodbank charity The Trussell Trust.

Laura Bradford, customer experience manager at Tesco in Batley, said: “We’re over the moon with the huge number of food donations we’ve had in the store, resulting in such an amazing number of meals to give to those in need.

“It really demonstrates the generosity of the people of Batley.

“Thank you for once again supporting us, and making this collection so successful.”

The bi-annual food collection runs in all Tesco stores across the country to collect vital store cupboard essential foods, such as rice, tea, tinned meat and fish and UHT milk.

Tesco will top up donations made to the collection by 20 per cent.
