Ghost hunters head for town

Ghost hunters are to investigate Dewsbury Town Hall following spooky sightings there.

Simply Ghost Nights will be holding the first paranormal investigation at the town hall.

The owner of Simply Ghost Nights, Rosie Dawson, said: “It’s something we do on a regular basis. We hold events all across the country and Dewsbury Town Hall has a historical significance with the Yorkshire Ripper being held there.”

Staff have recently spoken of seeing an apparition of a man near the cells and negative feelings in certain parts of the Victorian building.

There have also been reports of hot and cold spots.

The Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe made his first appearance at Dewsb ury magistrates court, which was then in the town hall buildings.

Rosie said: “We were approached by Richard Batterby, audience management and development officer for Kirklees town halls, about the possibility of investigating the town hall because there had been sightings.”

It will be the first ever investigation of its kind at the Grade II listed building, which was opened in September 1889.

“We will be splitting up into very small groups and each group will be holding seances. We’ll be using all of our equipment for different investigations,” said Rosie.

There are 30 places open to the public to join the event on March 3 between 9pm and 3am.

Faint-hearted would-be ghost hunters need not worry though as two mediums will be at the event to ensure things don’t go with too much of a bump in the night.

Tickets cost £39 and can be bought off www.simplyghostnights.co.uk.
