Independent hospital opens its second ward

The Priory Group this week opened a new ward at its rehabilitation facility in York Road, Earlsheaton.

Jubilee Ward will provide specialist health care for men with mild to moderate learning disabilities, associated mental health needs and challenging behaviour.

The company has so far spent £5m on the Priory Hospital Dewsbury, which opened in September.

The site was set up to complement psychiatric intensive care and low secure mental health services in the region.

Its services focus on improving patients’ independent living skills through social and recreational activities.

Hospital director Mark Fuller said: “Over many years, Priory has developed a range of specialist rehabilitation services that provide a person centred approach enhancing independent living skills.

“We provide rapid access to treatment and rehabilitation in order to help and support the individual towards recovery.”

The hospital accepts referrals from a number of sources including secure services, psychiatric intensive care units, prisons and other independent providers.

Mr Fuller said: “We have been delighted with the initial success of the hospital and have responded to the need for high quality, value for money services with the opening of the new ward.”

The hospital’s first ward was named Hartley Ward in memory of Dewsbury soldier Corporal Jake Hartley. His mum, Nathalie Taylor, was officially opened the hospital.
