An injured army veteran shaved her head to raise funds to allow others medically discharged from the forces to enjoy a motorbike tour.
Caroline Williams, 48, of Penn Drive, took up the challenge at the Obediah Brooke pub, Cleckheaton, for Bike Tours for the Wounded. She hopes to have raised more than £1,000.
A staff sergeant in the Royal Army Medical Corps, she was medically discharged in 2012 with injuries to her lower back and ankle suffered during training. She had served in Bosnia, Yugoslavia, Northern Ireland and Iraq over 22 years.
In September, she travelled down America’s Route 66 on the back of a Harley Davidson with Bike Tours for the Wounded.
Caroline said: “It think it’s an excellent idea because it instills confidence in people who have been medically discharged. It gives them a quality of life back. You are all strangers when you come together but we don’t have to explain these injuries because we have served in the same environment. Basically, you’re not on your own.”
