John props-up play for am-dram group
John Chambers has designed and built puppets and marionettes for the Cleckheaton and Spenborough Amateur Dramatics Society’s production of The Sound of Music.
He has made a total of eight props for the show, which took him more than two months to complete.

“I have high hopes for the play and we are very confident,” he said. “It’s not as easy as it used to be to get people to come out to plays like this, because people seem to prefer to watch TV these days, but for us to get the rights to do these plays, we have to hit a certain standard, and we are definitely doing that.”
John has been a member of the society for over 12 years and made many of the props and accessories used in previous productions, which include episodes of Fawlty Towers and Dad’s Army.
He began work on the Spenborough Guardian then joined the Reporter Series photographic team. He was a photographer for 32 years until his retirement in 2005.
