Keith Chegwin chips in to celebrate county's best chippy

IT'S official – Dewsbury's fries are the best in Yorkshire.

Despite the county being home to towns such as Whitby and Bridlington – famous for their fabulous fish suppers – the chips were up this week for Scarborough Fisheries in Thornhill.

The shop came top in an online competition to find the region's Perfect Portion and received its award from TV presenter Keith Chegwin.

What do you think? Are Dewsbury's chips the best in the country, or can Mirfield chippies give them a run for their money? Cheggers presented owner Paul Gledhill with his trophy, had a lesson in frying chips, and entertained customers with a chip-themed version of the Kaiser Chiefs' Ruby, when he visited this week. You can see his performance on our websites.

The competition, organised by the Potato Council, marks National Chip Week. Cheggers said: "I was at a chip shop earlier and thought theirs were the best I've had, but these are better – crunchy on the outside,

nice and fluffy on the inside!"

Customers at Thornhill's Scarborough Fisheries on Tuesday were surprised to be served by Cheggers, a former host of The Big Breakfast and It's a Knockout and a GMTV regular.
