A man was threatened with a knife in an attempted carjacking on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old stopped to assist a man who was seen gesturing for a car to stop in what appeared to be an emergency.
As the victim brought his Audi A4 to a standstill, the suspect leaned towards the driver’s window and threatened him with a knife, telling him to get out of the car.
But the victim drove off and reported the incident to the police.
It happened at around 7.45pm in Green Lane, near Birkdale Road.
Det Sgt Nigel Gittins, from Kirklees CID, said: “The suspect is described as a man with Pakistan or Indian heritage, was believed to be aged in his twenties, had a skinny build and was wearing grey coloured tracksuit bottoms and a dark coloured hooded top.
“The victim, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was not injured in the incident but has been left understandably shocked by what took place.
“We believe the suspect had tried to flag down other vehicles in the area and I would ask anyone who saw the man or who may have stopped and being threatened themselves to contact police.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Kirklees CID on 101, quoting crime reference number: 13150009029.
