Leeds United’s squad building for the new season has stepped up a pace with two more signings announced.

After agreeing a deal to bring in goalkeeper Robert Green, the Whites have taken their number of summer signings up to five by taking Swansea City midfielder Matt Grimes on a season-long loan.

Grimes, 20, is an England under 21 international who previously worked under Leeds head coach Garry Monk when he was in charge at Swansea.

He has made only a handful of appearances for the Welsh club following a £1.75m move from Exeter City in 2015, but finished last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, playing 13 times and playing against the Whites at Ewood Park in March.

Grimes told www.leedsunited.com: “This was a no-brainer for me. It’s such a big club and we’re looking to have a really strong season.

“I’m really excited to come here and play football. That’s the aim for me this season. Coming here gives me a really good chance to do that at a high level.

“Garry Monk and (assistant) Pep Clotet were really good to me when I was at Swansea. They helped me a lot and nurtured me when I was a young player coming through so it’ll be great to work with them again.”

Grimes will be joined at Leeds by experienced former England goalkeeper Robert Green, who is arriving on a free transfer on a 12-month deal, having been released by Queens Park Rangers in May.

The 36-year-old has been capped 12 times by England and has played almost 600 games. He will add competition for Marco Silvestri the number one goalkeeper spot at Elland Road.

Green said: “This is one of those opportunities where the first phone call asking if you want to come and play for Leeds is a very quick one. It was a ‘yes’ straight away.

“I’m thrilled to be here. I’ve spoken to the manager and I know what he’s got in store and what he’s planning. What he said really resonated with me and re-affirmed my feelings towards this opportunity.

“After long wait over the summer, the last few days have happened very quickly and now I’m ready to go. I can’t wait to get going.”
