Lights fantastic in band contest!

The Spenborough-based indie rock group, which reformed nine months ago after an absence from the music scene, came first in a tightly-fought  final that saw six bands compete for a £500 prize, as well as plectrum-shaped trophies.

Speaking after the final, Lights singer Chris Parkin said: “This is for all the people who make it out to see us week in, week out.

“We really couldn’t have done it without your support and  encouragement, thank you.”

The final was the culmination of a three month-long search for the best band writing and playing songs in the local area.

Finalists included Jarred, The River and I, Sleepy Jake and The Duvets, Ormstons, who came third in the competition, and Murderpuss, who came second.

Judging was based on a range of factors, including stage presence, song writing, playing ability and crowd response.

Chris said: “Winning the Live Room’s inaugural Battle of the Bands means a lot to us.

“It’s been a long road getting back to our best but we’re here now and we want to keep pushing forward.

“We’ll use the winnings to get back in the studio to record more of our original songs.”

The Clouded Lights, whose members hail from Cleckheaton, Gomersal and Birkenshaw, cap off a stellar comeback year with gigs at the Live Room in Cleckheaton on Saturday 26 November and the Comrades Club in Heckmondwike on Friday 16 December.
