Litter pick clears up green spaces

A mound of rubbish, a fridge, tyres and computer were taken off the streets of Ravensthorpe in a clean up.

Members of Ravensthorpe Residents Action Group were joined by volunteers including Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell on Saturday, picking up litter and discarded goods from around Holroyd Park.

It was the second of four planned litter-picks, aimed at both clearing up the area and encouraging people to take more pride in their village,

Action group committee member Bruce Bird said that 80 bags of rubbish were collected, along with larger fly-tipped goods. The group has already worked with local school children to educate them about litter.

Mr Bird said: “We want to educate children and adults and the best way to do that is being seen out doing it.”
