Lucky employees in chance for glory at Wembley

Two lucky employees are preparing to swap their Batley workplace for the hallowed turf of Wembley Stadium.

Adam Kubasiak and Cheryl Srimok, who work at the PPG Architectural Coatings warehouse, will take part in a special match at the national stadium on Sunday.

Adam, 30, will play on the pitch just 90 minutes before the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final, when Barnsley will take on Oxford United in the pursuit of cup glory.

Meanwhile, Cheryl will manage one of the teams competing in the special game.

The pair got their chance after winning a random draw for employees at their workplace in Batley, which is the parent company of Johnstone’s Paint.

Adam said: “I used to play a bit of football in school but other than that I haven’t played for a while. I mainly stay fit by running and going to the gym.

“While I do like football, I haven’t got a favourite team but I think everyone knows how amazing Wembley is and I can’t wait to get out and play in front of thousands of people.”

He will compete in the Johnstone’s Sixes match as part of the Covaplus County Team.

Adam’s team, managed by Cheryl, will take on the Stormshield Rangers, named after the company’s biggest selling product.

Cheryl, 39, of Batley, said: “I’ve been to Wembley previously and have always been amazed at the atmosphere and the size of the stadium, so to be on the touchline will be a fantastic experience.

“My husband is a huge football fan so I couldn’t wait to call him and tell him I’d won the competition – I think he’s secretly jealous.

“I’m really looking forward to the day. Some managers are on the side shouting at the players but I think I’ll be the sort of manager that keeps their cool.”

Richard Mazurkiewicz, marketing manager for Johnstone’s Trade, added: “We’re delighted to be able to offer our dedicated staff this unique opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at Wembley, which is something even most professional footballers can only ever dream of.”
