Work has already started on the building, which has laid empty since it was closed as part of government cost-cutting measures in March 2012.

A sign outside the building for ‘Courts Banqueting and Conference Suites’ states it will be available for weddings, parties, conferences and meeting rooms, and indicates it will be open sometime in 2014.

An HM Courts and Tribunals Service spokesperson yesterday said the sale represented good value for money.

She added: “The sale of this closed court for £300,000 represented best value for money for the taxpayer – both in terms of price received and avoiding further unnecessary costs.”

Last year it was revealed that the dormant building was costing thousands of pounds a month to maintain.
