A MAN has been arrested after cash, credit cards and a broken laptop computer were stolen from a monastery.

The Community of the Resurrection in Mirfield was struck on Thursday and Sunday last week.

On Thursday evening, money was stolen from an office and an honesty box in the bookshop at the monastery in Stocks Bank Road.

More cash, credit cards and the laptop were taken from bedrooms in the monastery on Sunday evening.

Fr George Guiver said: “It makes us a bit fed up.

“It’s always an unpleasant experience for the brethren to have a thief in their home, but we also feel sorry for someone making a mess of their lives like that.”

A police spokesman said a 35-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the second theft and released on bail.

The man is also a suspect in connection with the first theft.
