Mirfield 25 developers face further wait

Members of Kirklees Council’s Heavy Woollen planning sub-committee were told an environmental impact assessment for the Mirfield 25 site had not been advertised for the necessary amount of time – and the decision would have to be made at a later date.

Park Crescent was given planning permission in October 2009 to develop the site off Leeds Road.

Permission was granted on the basis that work would start on a retirement home, business and industrial units there within three years.

Shortly before the permission was due to expire in October last year, Park Crescent applied to have the time limit extended.

The decision will come back again before councillors at the next planning committee in September.

Officers will recommend that the request is then referred to the Highways and Planning Committee if councillors back it.

Huddersfield-based David Brown got planning permission more than a year ago to build a centre of excellence for gear manufacture and a wind innovation centre on the site.

The plans submitted by Park Crescent were vigorously opposed by campaigners fighting to protect green belt land.
