Mirfield businesswoman makes pictures plea to camera thieves

Christine Haigh said burglars who raided her home could keep everything else they took. “But please, please give me back those memory cards,” she said. Mrs Haigh, 63, owns the Oops-a-Daisy and Oops, I Did It Again card and gift shops in Mirfield town centre. Last month, she returned to her Huddersfield home to find police there after a break-in.

Thieves had taken items such as a TV and laptop, but it wasn’t until later that Mrs Haigh realised her Canon IXUS 75 camera had also gone. It contained pictures from her son’s wedding in Australia last November, but there were also five memory cards in the case with images of Mrs Haigh’s mother, Mirfield woman Lyn Sanders, who died two years ago.

“I burst into tears when I realised,” said Mrs Haigh. “The cards held some of the last pictures of my mum.”

Mrs Haigh’s father, 87-year-old John Sanders of Parkfield Avenue in Mirfield, is also distressed by the loss of the pictures of his late wife. The cards can be returned at either of the shops in Huddersfield Road or at the Wilson’s Arms pub in Mirfield.
