Mirfield designer to star in Channel 4’s Restoration Man

Jake Hinchliffe started his company Orange Design Studio Limited, after completing a BTEC National Diploma in Construction Management at Kirklees College.

One of his projects caught the attention of Channel 4 programme makers who were keen on the the unusual nature of its design.

Jake, who is 22, has been involved in the design stage of a project, which involved the restoration and conversion of a Grade II listed chapel in Lower Hopton.

Owner Faye Parker is converting the former Hopton United Reformed Church in into a home for herself – keeping many of the site’s unusual features including the organ, pews and pulpit.

The project also involved converting buildings at the rear of the chapel into six homes and building an additional six new houses on site.

Filming has already taken place and the work on the former chapel is set to feature in the Channel 4 series Restoration Man.

The programme is expected to be shown next year once the renovation is completed.

But this is not the only major project Jake’s company has been involved in.

“We have also seen many house remodelling projects and extensions, one of which was a Georgian manor house that we converted to provide a living space whilst maintaining the original features,” he said. “We have also designed a unique retail shop which was the home for a luxury chocolate shop The Melting House. Our design matched their product – luxurious and sleek.”

His former college tutor Stuart Clark said he was very proud of Jake’s accomplishments.
