OVER 50S GROUP - On Friday, the group met at the Zion Baptist Church Hall and chairman Roy Parry welcomed singer Amie Rae. CHRIST THE KING - Last Sunday’s service was well attended. The prayers were led by Ian Grange, the choir anthem was Amazing Grace, and music was played by Garth Swift, Steve Rochell and Nicola Bell. DEWSBURY PHOTOGRAPHIC GROUP - Monday’s AGM saw the new president elect, Tony Pratt, and vice president, Paul Ketton announced. It was decided by vote that the new name will be Dewsbury Photographic Group. Next meeting: May 13, Digital Night.
DEWSBURY AND DISTRICT RAMBLERS - Last Sunday ten members set off from Hayfield for a 12 mile walk, which took in Kinder Scout and William Clough. Stuart Gledhill was the leader. A walk planned for Sunday May 5 has been cancelled.
DEWSBURY PROBUS CLUB - At the fortnightly meeting at Hanging Heaton Church Hall last Thursday, members observed a minute’s silence after president Ken Wright reported the death of one of their oldest members, Alan Taylor at the age of 90. Mr Taylor, a retired accountant, had been a member for 16 years and had been very active right up to his sudden death. The speaker was Len Gardner who gave an interesting presentation on ‘My Life in Textiles’. Reports were given by secretary John Jenkinson, treasurer Colin Spurr and registrar Tommy Lynn. At the next meeting on May 9, the speaker will be Stuart Archer with a talk entitled ‘Schools and the First World War’.
