AMIRFIELD man flew to Ireland for sex with a 13-year-old girl and filmed their hotel room encounter, Belfast High Court has heard.
Prosecutors said Gareth Freeman, 31, of Regent Street, arranged for the girl, who he met on a mobile phone networking site, to stay over at the hotel with him, where he filmed sex with her.
The court heard Freeman had sent her 4,000 text messages and videos the month before, some explicit, and had persuaded her to send sexual images back.
Police allegedly found the images on his phone along with photographs of other children.
The prosecution said the girl had told her mother she was going to the cinema and a sleepover when she went to meet Freeman.
He was arrested and released in December. But the girl made a formal complaint in January and the court heard Freeman attempted suicide when the police inquiry was started.
He appeared at Belfast High Court last Friday to appeal for bail but his application was denied.
A defence lawyer said Mr Freeman had returned to face questioning voluntarily and made frank admissions during interviews.
But the prosecutor said Freeman was 'a predatory male offender.'
Freeman faces charges of inciting a child to engage in and watch sexual activity, and two counts of possessing indecent images of children. He is also accused of meeting a child following sexual grooming.
The case continues.
