MIRFIELD’s MP has given his backing to our campaign for dignity in care at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

And just a week after we started our campaign, protecting the dignity of elderly patients has hit national headlines.

We are asking the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust to hold a major review of basic care for the elderly at Dewsbury and District Hospital after local people shared their concerns.

Simon Reevell has this week praised families and the Reporter for speaking out.

“It’s good that people are brave enough to come forward,” he said. “We shouldn’t be complacent and this campaign is a good example of how we can hold people to task.”

Mr Reevell plans to raise our campaign with the Trust’s new chief executive Stephen Eames, who took up his post yesterday.

This week, the Commission on Improving Dignity in Care published a draft report into care for the elderly.

It backs the findings our articles with patients and their families, showing a lack of basic care is not just a local issue.
