Mirfield salon has hot date to tan Dancing on Ice stars

SPRAY tanner Ashleigh Craig wasted no time in getting her skates on for the chance of a lifetime.

She couldn’t wait to get started when she got the opportunity to join the tanning team for hit ITV show Dancing on Ice.

And now her mum, Beverly, who helps her run a beauty salon in Mirfield, is also getting in on the act.

She is in line for training next week and hopes to join the show’s team before the series ends in March.

But Ashleigh is already booked for the March 24 final and will be at a red carpet end-of-show party in London in April.

There is also a chance she will be working on a live tour later this year.

Every other week, Ashleigh is at the centre of preparations for Dancing on Ice, making sure the celebrities and their skating partners all sport a lovely, bronzed look.

Now in its seventh series, the Sunday night show uses a particular spray tan for the line-up. And Ashleigh, who runs Beauty by Iridessence, helps the spray’s creator Abi Oleck.

“The celebs and their skating partners get their spray tans every week in time for the show to ensure they look stunning,” said Ashleigh, 20.

“The tanning room is usually a hive of activity and we have great fun with all the professionals and their celebrity partners.”

A particular favourite is Halifax-born Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden.

“When he and some of the others arrive they are a breath of fresh air and lots of fun,” said Ashleigh, a former pupil at Castle Hall.

The minimal-chemical Beaubronz spray used for the show was initially the choice of skating legend Jayne Torvill because it was the first not to aggravate her asthma.

Ironically, Ashleigh also suffers from the condition. “But it doesn’t affect my breathing when I’m working,” she said.

Ashleigh was asked to join the Dancing on Ice team after hitting it off with Abi O at a beauty show in London.

She didn’t have to think twice and now goes to Elstree studios at weekends, with her mum.

“After my training I’m also hoping to join the tanning team for the final,” said Beverly, 46. “It’s an amazing experience. They are all so lovely.”

Ashleigh and Beverly opened their Sunny Bank Road salon last March and Beverly juggles this with her work as county press officer for army cadets.

“I’m always busy, but we wanted to do something together and just decided to go for it,” she said.

And Dancing on Ice has certainly been good for business, with bookings for five weddings since Ashleigh started working on the show.
