MP’s call to delay LDF

Simon Reevell urged Kirklees Council to postpone its Local Development Framework (LDF) until the government’s new Localism Bill becomes law, to give local people a greater say in how their towns develop.

On Tuesday, people in Thornhill Lees, Dewsbury, were discussing plans to build more than 4,000 homes in their area.

At the community centre in Brewery Lane, local residents heard a presentation from Planning Aid, an organisation which gives free, independent advice on planning issues.

Discussions were then held in groups.

Peter Allsop, of Ouzelwell Terrace, said residents had concerns about the number of new houses and how this would affect traffic.

Councillors in Dewsbury East have organised a public meeting for tomorrow on the development plans.

People are urged to go to the meeting in St Paul’s church hall in Hanging Heaton between 11am and noon.

Coun Paul Kane said the meeting was to look at how the LDF would affect the ward, Chidswell in particular.

“We want people to come and air their views so we can take these back to Kirklees council,” said Coun Kane.
