A joiner has spoken of his shock at the audacious theft of his van in Liversedge.
Joseph Lambert’s vehicle was stolen as he was loading goods onto it at Foregale’s in Union Road.
Mr Lambert was at Foregale’s collecting work supplies, but as he was loading the van, the thief leapt into it and drove off.
The thief had been seen in the yard, but Foregale’s staff thought he was with Mr Lambert – while Mr Lambert mistakenly thought he worked at Foregale’s.
But he worked for neither and, after leaping into the passenger side of Joseph’s Ford Transit, he drove away before Mr Lambert and Foregale’s staff could stop him.
“It was really unlucky,” said Mr Lambert.
“I thought he had worked for Foregale’s and they though he worked for me, so nobody asked who he was.”
The incident took place at around 11am on Wednesday March 20. Since the van was stolen, Mr Lambert’s business has been badly affected.
“It’s like losing a limb,” he said.
“It’s very difficult to go out on jobs since it was taken. I also had about £700 worth of tools in there as well. I’d urge anyone who saw anything to contact the police.”
Insp Tim Holland from the Spen Valley NPT said: “Any sort of crime like this is unacceptable, and we would urge anybody who saw anything to contact the police on the non-emergency 101 number.”
The incident was captured on the firm’s CCTV cameras and police want to speak to anyone with information.
