New best for Olympian Lois in Rio final

The 16-year-old teamed-up with Plymouth’s Tonia Couch in the women’s 10m synchro final on Tuesday, aiming to become the first British women to win a diving medal at an Olympics for 56 years.

And while they missed out on that goal by just 16.74 points, eventually finishing fifth in a top drawer field, the British duo had plenty to celebrate.

Despite the Rio diving pool turning a strange shade of green, Toulson and Couch kept their heads to record a personal best tally of 319.44, and the Gomersal starlet was delighted, saying: “It was amazing. It was one of the best competitions that I’ve done.

“I really enjoyed it and I’ve definitely got a lot of experience from it as well.

“I’ve learned you need to enjoy it. I really enjoyed that competition and we ended up getting a personal best together so it shows that’s important.”

The British pair remained in the hunt for a medal throughout but were unable to produce a final round dive that would have put them in the top three.

However, the experience will bode well for the pair and Couch said: “Some of the teams here have been competing together for years.

“We’ve been competing together for eight months so I didn’t want to go in panicking and we just wanted to give it our all.”
