New care home to open in May

Oak Park care home in Chickenley will specialise in care for the elderly with 66 beds, as well as dementia and dedicated nursing units.

Darrington Healthcare is building the home with a £3m development loan from the Yorkshire Bank.

Darrington managing director Eric Dixon said: “Oak Park’s modern facilities and structured care are designed to enable us to provide top quality services to all residents at all stages of their stay with us.

“We will see our first patients in a few months, and look forward to serving Dewsbury and surrounding areas for the foreseeable future.

“We’re currently looking at other potential sites in the region and we hope to confirm plans for additional care homes in the near future. Yorkshire Bank has been fully supportive in our vision and is working in partnership to help us achieve our goals.”

The new home, on the site of a former care home and council offices at the junction of Ossett Lane and Walnut Lane, will cost of a total of £4m to build.

Oak Park will be the third care home built by Darrington in Yorkshire, after Willow Park in Pontefract and Elm Park in Doncaster.

The firm is currently looking at other sites in West Yorkshire, which it said could bring between 60 to 80 jobs to the areas they would be built.

Mr Dixon said: “Not all care homes are the same and we want to show people that moving into care can be a positive choice.”
