‘No frills’ gym facilities are coming to Dewsbury.
The town’s council-run health centre in Longcauseway is to provide a basic membership package, called Smart Fitness, for £14.95 a month.
People can sign up online, take a brief induction and start using the facilities.
The gym will have a larger fitness suite and new equipment, redeveloped dance studios and a new hi-tech spin studio as well as a functional training area.
Members can choose bolt ons to their membership, costing £5 a month extra for studio classes and £5 a month extra for swimming, or £10 a month extra for both.
They can also take up personal training and other activities like badminton and squash.
The new facilities have been funded by Kirklees Active Leisure and Kirklees Council. Alasdair Brown, Kirklees Active Leisure chief executive, said: “KAL are delighted to be able to offer such a great local facility at such an affordable price.
“Hopefully this will attract lots more people from the Dewsbury and surrounding areas to look after their health and wellbeing and become regular Smart Fitness customers.”
The new facilities will be available from December.
