Residents in Soothill have had no running water since early this morning.
A man living in Bloomsdale Road said houses in the area had no water since 9.30am, and believes it is a faulty valve in new water pipes.
Yorkshire Water has since said it would supply bottled water to houses affected on Bloomsdale Road, West Acre Drive, Clutton Street and Lady Ann Road among others.
A spokesman for the company said: “We would like to apologise to residents in Batley who have lost their water supply this morning.
“Our technicians are doing their best to restore supplies as quickly as possible and in the meantime we are in the process of delivering bottled water to the homes affected.
“The problem was caused by a fault with a valve our contractors encountered whilst carrying out lead pipe replacement works in the area.”
