Help us celebrate the people and businesses whose hard work, commitment and passion make Mirfield a great place to live, shop and work.
We’ve teamed up with MyMirfield, an organisation set up to champion the town and bring people in the town together, for the first MyMirfield Community and Business Awards.
Last week we opened up the nominations and asked you tell us about your favourite Mirfield businesses, pubs and restaurants, plumbers and builders, shops, community groups and events.
And we’ve been inundated with more than 200 nominations already.
MyMirfield’s Richard Hartley said: “We know people care about the town, but we’re amazed at how many nominations we’ve got so quickly.
“It’s a testament to the general goodwill that people in our town want to celebrate those who are doing a good job.”
Nominations for six of the seven categories are being taken until Monday March 2.
MyMirfield will then announce the shortlisted nominees in our paper on March 13 when voting opens.
The winners will be revealed during an awards night at Dewsbury District Golf Club in Mirfield on April 17.
The event will include a ‘posh’ raffle and auction for which donations would be welcome.
Proceeds will be split by Mirfield cyclist Jake Womersley – the grandson of Tour de France legend Brian Robinson – and MyMirfield, which will use its share on events like the late night shopping sessions it helped to co-ordinate last Christmas.
