Oakwell Hall Yorkshire Day cancelled

The event was due to take place on Saturday July 29.

A Kirklees Council spokeswoman said it was with regret she had to announce the cancellation on Wednesday.

She added: “Due to the unprecedented weather the country has experienced over the last few months, the fields and gardens at Oakwell Hall have become so waterlogged that the site is unable to accommodate an event of this size.

“In such conditions, the council cannot guarantee the safety of the public, stall holders and activity providers, nor ensure that substantial, long term damage is not caused to the country park. Therefore the decision has been taken to cancel the event for this year.”
