Birstall tip is intimidating

I READ your comments about tipping in Batley’s Nab Lane site with interest (‘No re-cycling’, News, July 28).

The treatment these people received at the tip does not surprise me at all. I have never been to such an intimidating place to get rid of my rubbish in my life.

When I lived in Kirklees I had the van treatment (‘You can’t tip here without a commercial licence’), and ‘You can only tip one fridge a year here love, how many have you brought before’?.

I have also been turned away as I turned up in a different vehicle and forgot my pass, even though I could give them my name, address and postcode.

The only thing I have never seen is people getting any help. I have been to this tip countless times and have watched and helped frail old people climbing steep stairs to get access to the skips to dump their rubbish. This must surely be a health and safety risk, even for able bodied people, especially in wet and freezing weather?

What idiot invented this system at Nab Lane and why are the tip staff keen on standing by to watch what you are throwing in there, not willing or interested in helping the people who are clearly incapable of getting up there?

These folk are wanting to responsibly get rid of their waste and are prepared to come to a site and tip it. The workers on the site at Nab Lane are the best advert I’ve ever seen for promoting fly tipping!

Dewsbury tip, on the other hand could not be more helpful just as Mr Watts said, but why should we travel all the way there when Nab Lane could be the nearer place. Why are the tips not run in the same way?
