Serving you for 14 years

I SHALL not be standing for re-election again this year.

I would like to say a personal thank you to the Dewsbury Reporter, former editors and staff for their professionalism over the years.

I will have been serving this community for 14 years as a councillor and as Mayor of Kirklees and deputy mayor and I have really enjoyed every moment of being involved with Kirklees and especially Dewsbury West.

I would like to say thanks to every single person in Dewsbury and Dewsbury West and I wish Waheed Anwar, a local family man, who will be standing to represent this ward for the Liberal Democrats, every success. I have never experienced any hatred or racism among the community of Dewsbury West and have not felt I have been an ‘ethnic’ councillor. Wherever I went people welcomed me.
