Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed the nation on Saturday night to announce a new national lockdown, in response to continually rising levels of infection and hospitalisations from the virus all over the country.

The new national lockdown will see normal life grind to a halt, with just schools, universities and colleges remaining open, as well as workplaces where staff cannot work from home.

“Once again we in Batley & Spen have been asked to go above and beyond to help defeat this virus.," she said.

"I know how hard these last months have been to so many.

"I sympathise with the frustration some must feel, however, we must follow these new restrictions carefully and hope that they bring infection rates down, as is sorely needed.

"There should have been more business support given by the government. Despite this, I’m happy to see the ingenuity of local businesses that have found creative ways to continue trading and go online.

"Stay safe during the difficult few weeks ahead, look after each other, try and shop local and I look forward to meeting again soon. “

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has promised MPs that England’s new lockdown restrictions will end on 2 December “whatever happens.”

The second national lockdown is due to remain in place for a period of four weeks, starting on Thursday 5 November, and will see a ban on household mixing indoors, a crackdown on travel, and several types of business forced to close.
