Visitors to Rectory Park in Thornhill have noticed trees falling on the island in the middle of the park over the past few weeks.

And there are concerns for people’s safety after a 30 metre tree was heard to be cracking.

Kirklees Council has now built a fence to stop people from accessing the island while they assess the situation.

It is hoped that the area will be open again by Wednesday (April 10).
