Pensioners lay down the lawn for party

Cleckheaton pensioners gathered for a garden party to celebrate the laying of a new lawn at Church Grange retirement living scheme. Artificial grass has been introduced to the outdoor areas due to the bad condition of the turf. More than 60 residents attended and enjoyed a buffet, stalls, and entertainment from the White Rose ukulele band. The complex is part of Age UK's Neighbourhood Friends project, and its facilities are open to people in the community who are at risk of loneliness.

“It looks so much nicer, makes the garden much easier to walk on and the flowers seem more colourful against the new lawn,” said tenant Barbara Gooch.
