Calder Vets has introduced the service in a bid to reassure pet owners during the coronavirus crisis, after aligning with Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) guidelines to see only urgent and emergency cases.

It has started this vital service alongside its sister practice Paragon Veterinary Referrals which is based in Wakefield.

The video consultations will allow the vets to give general advice and updates on treatment for pets already in their care. The process will involve clients calling practice reception as usual in the first instance, to arrange a call with vets to establish whether a video consultation is appropriate.

If it is, the practices will then liaise with clients to organise a suitable date and time, email confirmation and guidance on set-up ahead of appointments.

A spokesman said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our patients, clients, team members and community is our main priority.

“While adhering to RCVS guidelines, during this time of social isolation and distancing we are committed to providing the highest levels of care to our patients and owners alike.
