As part of step three of the Government's roadmap out of lockdown, pubs, restaurants and other hospitality settings are now allowed to serve customers indoors again for the first time in several months.

Some of the first customers inside The Pear Tree pub on Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, were newly-weds Joanne and John Preston and their witnesses Andrea and Adrian Briggs.

Landlord Alan Ingle said: “The happy couple just dropped in for a drink after getting married.

“When I found out we cracked open a bottle of fizz.”

Alan, who has an extensive undercover beer garden, has been able to serve outdoors but he said he was delighted to be able to invite his regulars back inside.

His restaurant launched a new menu on Monday to tempt people back.

“We just hope this is the last lockdown,” he said.

“We’ll have to see what happens for the final stage of the lifting of all restrictions when June 21 comes round.”
