Safety concerns were also raised by the coastguard, but in 2007 permission was granted for the artwork to become a permanent fixture of the beach.

Modelled on Sir Antony’s own body, they were first exhibited on Cuxhaven beach in Germany in 1997 and have also been shown in Norway and Sweden, before making Merseyside their permanent home

They are purposely designed to be corroded by the tides, which ebbs and flows to reveal the figures daily.

The figures in Another Place were cast at Hargreaves Foundry in Halifax. Each is 6 foot 2 inches tall, and weighs around 650 kg.
