Police appeal after train incident

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) are investigating the incident, which happened between 8.30pm and 9pm on Friday, November 29. The 23-year-old victim, from Durham, was sitting alone in first class when four men came into the carriage and surrounded her. They subjected the woman to explicit and lewd verbal abuse. One man grabbed her knee and another threw a wet paper bag in her face.

All four men are described as being in their early twenties. One suspect had a thick, black moustache and black hair gelled up vertically from his head. He was wearing a black, leather jacket and had a Huddersfield accent. A second suspect had brown hair with thick, brown stubble, a pointy nose and small eyes. He also had a Huddersfield accent and wore a ‘Liam Gallagher’ mac style jacket.

Officers are now reviewing CCTV from on the train and at the station.

PC Penny Halliwell said: “This was clearly an extremely distressing experience for the victim and I would urge anyone with information to come forward and speak to us.”
