Police still on the hunt for gunman

Detectives are still hunting for a gunman after a shooting in Batley.

Police were called to the forecourt of the BP petrol station on Bradford Road, near Tesco, at around 10.25pm on Monday, October 5.

A 23-year-old man fled to the nearby garage for help after suffering gunshot wounds.

He was taken to hospital and police said his injuries are not life-threatening.

A forensic team cordoned off Caledonia Road the following morning while they carried their investigations.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man on Bunkers Lane in Staincliffe but he has been released without charge.

Det Chief Insp Mark McManus reassured residents that the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and that neighbourhood policing patrols would be increased.

He said: “Our enquiries remain ongoing and we are very much continuing to appeal for information.”

Police said the suspect is mixed-race, in his late twenties to early thirties and around 6ft tall.
