Police are warning residents about bogus window fitters. The Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team wants to hear from anyone who has been approached by cold callers wanting to replace windows. On June 13 a man visited the home of a couple on Crackenedge Lane at 3pm, claiming to be from a window replacement company. He persuaded them to go to the bank, withdraw money and hand it over.
PC Sarah Kynaston said: “We are investigating this incident and would ask anyone who saw a man matching this description in or around Crackenedge Lane, or who may have been approached by this individual to contact us.
“We would always advise residents who are approached by cold callers to check ID thoroughly with the caller’s company and not to let anyone into your home who you are not happy with.
“Genuine callers will not mind you confirming their identity with their employer and will make an appointment and come back.” The man was descrined as being white, 5ft 8ins tall, late 30’s or early 40’s and stocky with a roundish face. He wore a dark hat with ear flaps, a black jacket and trousers.
