Race night is a winner
The event held at Birstall Irish Nash last Thursday raised more than £1,200 to help keep the village blooming in 2014.
The money, raised through horse and race sponsors as well as bets placed on filmed horse races, will go towards the upkeep of 12 adopted gardens in the village.

“We want to thank all the sponsors for taking part and everyone for coming.”
The Nash’s function room was full of would-be winners, from residents to traders, all of whom enjoyed a pie and pea supper by butcher Shaun Fairweather of Mirfield.
Birstall Chamber of Trade even managed to win one of the races, sponsored by Jet 2 Holidays.
The group clubbed together and were left celebrating after their horse crossed the finishing line in the final race of the evening.
