Rapist jailed for subjecting sex worker to degrading ordeal

Adbul Fulat was handed the lengthy sentence after a court he subjected the victim to terrifying ordeal in his car which lasted one and a half hours.

Leeds Crown Court heard Fulat picked the woman up in the Holbeck area of the city around 11.30pm on September 25 last year before paying her £60 and taking her to Middleton Grove, Beeston.

The court heard he had been drinking and smoking crack cocaine and persuaded the woman to take some of the drug.

Fulat then began a conversion in which he talked about having sex with children in a bid to degrade the woman and make her feel frightened.

Fulat then carried out a prolonged, violent sex attack on the woman before ordering her to give back the money he had paid her.

He was arrested after the incident but refused to admit what he had done.

Fulat, 48, of Town Street, Batley, was found guilty of rape and supplying crack cocaine after a trial.

Jailing Fulat, judge Tom Bayliss said: “What you were saying to the victim....was part of your attempts to shock her, to control her and to degrade her.”

Alexander Menary, mitigating, handed the court letters of reference written on Fulat’s behalf by his wife, an imam, family members and friends.

The court heard how they described him as caring, supportive and a “man of great principles”.

Fulat was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order banning him from entering Leeds’ red light district.

After the case, Detective Inspector David Roberts, of Leeds District CID, said: “Fulat put the victim through an appalling ordeal after targeting her as someone who was vulnerable and involved in sex work.

“His actions show that he is clearly an individual who presents a threat to the wider community and we are pleased with the significant sentence he has received.

“We hope the fact he has been brought to justice will provide some reassurance to the victim. The judge has recognised the officer in the case’s professional and sensitive handling of the investigation and we hope this will help to demonstrate to others how seriously we treat offences of this nature.”
