Both the restaurant and Mr Dhrami pleaded guilty to the offence.

Councillor Barry Collins, Calderdale Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: “On a visit to Bellini’s restaurant in Brighouse, the council’s Environmental Health officers asked for confirmation of where 58 fillets of beef had come from.

“Bellini’s Restaurant Ltd and the manager Mr Alsi Dhrami were unable to provide adequate traceability information for the meat when questioned.

“The council will take all the necessary steps to stop food businesses putting people at risk, and won’t hesitate to take legal action against those who fail to comply with the law.”
