Safety gates recalled after reports of children falling down the stairs

Ikea customers are being urged to stop using one of their safety gates after receiving reports of children falling down the stairs.

The company is recalling the PATRULL gates after they have opened unexpectedly with some injured children requiring medical attention.

Ikea said that a third party investigation has shown that the locking mechanism is not reliable, posing a risk for small children, despite approved tests to applicable standards.

We want to offer safe products and we believe that children are the most important people in the world. Whenever we are made aware of a possible safety issue with our products, we investigate thoroughly. W

“We cannot accept that there could be a risk of injury while playing and as an immediate and precautionary action we have decided to recall all PATRULL safety gates.”

Customers that have a PATRULL safety gate are being urged to immediately stop using it and to take it back to an IKEA store for a full refund.
