Schoolgirl goes extra mile in name of charity

Megan Rodd, nine, has tackled climbing Mount Snowdon to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Unit and Leeds Teaching Hospitals.

Th youngster braved five hours of rain, snow and 50mph gusts to complete her charity challenge.

Proud mum Shell said: “We made it 15 minutes from the top which was a brilliant effort.

“She battled through for over five hours and at a point on the the mountain called Killer Convex we would have had to go single file.

“With the winds at that point we decided that we would be risking our lives and turned back just 15 minutes from the top.”

Megan raised more than £1,500 with half of the proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Unit and Leeds Teaching Hospital along with the Warrington Wolves Foundation.

And now the charitable youngster is looking forward to her next charity challenge.

She will walk 65 miles from Headingley Stadium to the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington next month.

Shell added: “We are already looking at the next big challenge.

“Megan is already busy securing sponsors for this and is very excited.

“Without the help of others Megan can’t do what she does.”

Megan is no stranger to charity challenges.

She started fundraising for the Leeds Rugby Foundation from the tender age of five with a two-mile walk from Leeds Rhinos’ stadium in Headingley to Hyde Park in Leeds. She has also climbed Ben Nevis.
